Brother’s Keeper is a service program developed with the mission of advocating for and improving the quality of life for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. brothers, their spouses, and widows who are retired, are elders, have disabilities and are ailing.
Upon identification of need, the Brother’s Keeper Program also provides assistance to mature and ailing members of its communities. Limitations caused by advanced age place demands on family members, caregivers, and the larger community to ensure that elders remain independently functional.
The goal of the Brother’s Keeper Program is to promote dignity and independence among Alpha family and community members who need help in keeping their lives and homes functional. There are seven objectives to the program:
Assist in maintaining living environments that are compatible with participants’ levels of functioning
Assist in maintaining the upkeep of participants’ properties
Assist with health care decision making
Provide legal services
Ensure adequate supplies of food, water, and clothing, with special emphasis on disaster management and recovery
On December 5th, Saturday morning, Brothers from the Epsilon Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. participated in one of our national programs, Brother’s Keeper, by decorating the house of Mrs. Helen Boyer with Christmas lights. Mrs. Boyer is the wife of one of our brothers who has went on to Omega Chapter, Brother Jacob L. “Jake” Boyer. Mrs. Boyer was very thankful, and professed her love she has for Alpha.
The Brothers that were present from Epsilon Tau Lambda were: Stewart Berry, Melvin Harris, Lynn Smith Jr., Frederick Roberts, Herbert Thomas, Matthew Stephens, and Robert Wright Jr. We also had Brothers from the college chapter, Eta Gamma, who were also present: Will Brown, Kiandre Stevenson, Justin Shelby, Brandon Thompson, Keenan Middlebrook, and Carlen Hodgson.
"Goodwill is the monarch of this house, men
Unacquainted, enter, shake hands, exchange
Greetings and depart friends."
